# Divisors of 4

In this article we are going to list out the divisors of 4, explain and define what a divisor is, and also show you how to calculate and find the divisors of 4 (or any number) yourself.

When you are trying to solve a word problem that is written like "X divided by Y equals Z", there are three main parts which we are concerned with. These are the Dividend, the Divisor, and the Quotient.

Dividend (X) / Divisor (Y) = Quotient

We are looking in this case for the divisors of 4. The divisors of 4 must be a whole number, and the resulting quotient must also be a whole number.

4 / Divisor (Whole Number) = Quotient (Whole Number)

To do this manually, you can divide the number 4 by every whole number from 1 to 4. For example:

• 4 / 1 = 4
• 4 / 2 = 2
• 4 / 3 = 1.33
• 4 / 4 = 1
• 4 / 5 = 0.8
• etc...

Once you have done that you can go through the list of divisors and find only those that have a quotient that is a whole number. Each of those is a divisor of 4.

This can be done a lot quicker and a lot easier by computers than it can be by hand, so we have gone through all of the divisors of 4 automatically for you and found the entire list of divisors.
